I don’t know how much attention you’d allocated to sports this past 3-day weekend… Hopefully you spent part of it with friends and family, enjoying Memorial Day. I know us upper East Coasters had some nice weather during the daytime. So for those of you that worked on your tan a little more and your favorite seat’s butt-groove a little less, here’s a few things I surmised. Continue reading
The early part of the week can be killer for sports fans. Especially if you’re older and it means leaving your weekend behind and returning back to the daily grind.
Maybe you just need a list of stuff to keep your brain in sports mode. Or maybe you need some interesting stuff to share with your colleagues around the water cooler. Maybe it’s a simple as finding some random stuff to Google.
That’s just another use for LRDP. We’re gonna be particularly useful when football starts and Tuesday is the first day of the long wait until Saturday/Sunday.
We now present: “The Tuesday Blitz List”… Continue reading
I wouldn’t say the Orioles are “beginning to struggle” and I don’t think they are “about to plummet back to the basement”. We’re still 10 games over .500. Only three other teams in the entire league can say the same. I think it’s mostly a case of a young, overachieving team still finding its rhythm. Besides, they got a lot going on down by the Harbor.
Friday night’s 8-2 win over the Royals was played in front of a home crowd of 28,954. The incredible part about that statement is that 11,000 tickets were sold at the stadium in the two hours before game time. Yeah, looks like even the stubborn non-believers are starting to scratch the itch… Continue reading
Time to see what’s happening with this week’s Battle of the Cro-sades—27 May through 2 June 2012. We’re almost in the dog days of summer… ALMOST. My Orioles are still looking like the real deal… actually, most teams have playing very consistently (for better or for worse). We’re down to the NBA Final Four (OKC, San Antonio, Miami, and Boston). And we get to start the Stanley Cup (if anyone cares). Continue reading
It should be the greatest roster of all time. ALL TIME. In video game terms, a perfect team carries a 99 rating across the board—this team should be rated ∞ and be able to absolutely embarrass the 99 team in simulation. Every time.
I’m talking about the USA Basketball Men’s Senior National Team. Team USA.
Most of the time, it’s spot on. The best team in the world. Literally. According to Wikipedia, the United States fields the most successful international team: 16 Olympic tournaments entered, 16 medals won. With 13 of them being of the golden variety. Continue reading
This is going to be a different topical approach, but I think it’s going to be fun after you give it a read and think about it.
I wanted to write a column that tied the Boston Celtics to one of my favorite TV shows, LOST. I wanted to write a short-story column that starts with the school-days friendship between me and Dorsey and ends with my Boston Celtics triumphantly defeating his Philadelphia 76ers. I wanted to walk around smug all day.
I can’t do it. We played so bad in Game 6 and missed a great opportunity. I don’t want a Game 7. The very thought makes me sick/mad/anxious/nauseous. Time to call an audible. Let’s talk about something that needs to come to fruition. Something we can all enjoy. Continue reading
I wasn’t planning on doing an O’s-Zone Watch if the Orioles lost the game… but then Topher went to the game and did some awesome promo work. As you can see, he met the Orioles bird. And he also sat behind the dugout/home plate and tried to get some TV time. So I’ll do a recap anyways (btw, that game was EXTRA early for a Wednesday… ?). Continue reading
Totally sucks to be Brett Lawrie. First he gets suspended for 4 games for slamming his helmet (and the helmet bouncing up and hitting an ump). Now he’s hitting them with batted balls. (And arguing baserunning calls.)
Sad thing is, neither one of the physical “acts of aggression” is even really within his control.
It’s no secret that I am a rabid Orioles fan. Every year (for at least the first 2 months of the season), I convince myself that “this could be the year”… only to slowly lose faith… resigning (usually late August) to the fact that we suck. But… THIS COULD BE THE YEAR! Since the Baltimore Orioles are playing amazing baseball and have so much potential, I’m officially creating the O’s-Zone Watch. Continue reading
The most furious sports flurry of the year is just about over. I think the spring-to-summer transitional period is the most interesting time of the year. For weather and sports. You’ve got the NFL draft hype and fallout. The final stretch for the NBA season and the major part of the playoffs. The preseason baseball talk… followed by the first few weeks where anything included in the preseason talk has been the complete opposite. Continue reading
